In 2019, Dr. Shefelbine participated in an event in which 13 artists were paired with 13 scientists in Boston and sister city, Strasbourg. Dr. Shefelbine was paired with Colleen Pearce, a local Boston artist.

Her painting of the Hip was shown in the Art on Science: 26 etudes exhibition at the French Culture Center in Boston.

We then had an exhibit at the Needham Public library and the Skeletal Symposium at MGH.

Photos from Colleen's studio show how she explores bones through experimentation,. Close observations initiate discovery; reflections provoke curiosity. This is very similar to the scientific process we use in lab. Both science and art are creative. Science creates knowledge; art creates expression.

Collen's work explores morphogenesis, the study of form. She uses inspiration from the lab's research in her art. Contact Colleen directly if you are interested in purchasing any of the art.
